Gang flees with car after attacking driver

Express News Service

The Chengalpattu taluk police are investigating a case where a gang escaped with a car after allegedly attacking the driver and tying him to a tree, on Sunday.  Police said they were conducting an inquiry with a man who is alleged to be part of the gang.

They suspect that the gang could be involved in other car theft cases. Police said Anandan (35) of Vallam village, near Chengalpattu, was using his car to take IT employees to a company in Paranur. On Saturday, he had parked his car near the company when a gang of four asked him if he could take them to Chennai. After he took them some distance, the gang asked Anandan to take them to Sriperumbudur instead.

An argument broke out and a member of the gang threatened Anandan with a knife and demanded that he proceed to Sriperumbudur, police said. The gang forced him to take the vehicle towards a forest in Oragadam and allegedly beat him up before tying him to a tree. The gang escaped with the car, police added. While Anandan was rescued by a passerby, police said one of the gang members was caught. Investigations are on.
