Creative ‘art’ kolu for Navarathri

Express News Service

This Navarathri season, there have been a variety of kolu displays, right from waste art, botanical kolus, displays for global warming, among other things.

But bring together children between the age group of four and 11 and give them some crayons, an ‘Art Kolu’ is what you get.

Thirty two students of the Mastery Art Society contributed their drawings to this ‘Art Kolu’ that was held here in Chennai.

“We usually hold exhibitions every year. This year, we thought it would be a nice idea to hold an art kolu for Navarathri. All the kids seemed to like the idea too,” said Sheeba Ashok, instructor at the Art Society.

The seven steps of the kolu presented different hues of the imagination of the children. Martian landscapes, underwater scenery, trains chugging along and a very vivid F1 race track made up the art kolu. “These are children who take art classes with us after school hours as a hobby. We also have college students who come to learn drawing skills to supplement their academics, like engineering, design and architecture students,” added Sheeba.
