The CSI Redeemer Church English choir celebrated their annual thanksgiving Christmas concert on December 15 at the church. This year, the concert was titled ‘Wonderful Light’. The 150-minute programme was a wonderful mix of popular and classical music.

The programme began with a melodious chorale from Bach’s collection. After a brief welcome, the choir along with the strings orchestra led by Jerry Fernandes, presented Gloria from Mozart’s Twelfth Mass. This was followed by a few popular songs like Mary did you know and Star Carol by John Rutter. Popular pieces like Handel for unto us a child is born were also presented with lot of control and grace. Handel’s solo Rejoice greatly O daughter of Zion by Rubina was the pick of the evening. Every Valley solo by Vijaykumar was rendered well. O Happy Day—an all ladies voices led by Linda was soothing. Halfway through, there was a presentation of O Holy Night with the ringing voice of Rebecah, resounding through the church and followed by a trumpet solo.

The climax came when the kids and junior choirs performed. Their presentation of Christmas Polka with the orchestra was lilting.

There was also a foot tapping Tamil song and a Christmas medley and a final march that sent the crowd tapping their feet and clapping their hands all the way home.

Jeslyn, a budding pianist did a marvelous job on the piano. Emmanuel Ponraj the conductor clearly had every note in his control and the concert reflected the hard work of all.
