Visalakshi Nedunchezhiyan is new chief of TN Women’s Commission

Governor K Rosaiah has appointed Visalakshi Nedunchezhiyan (89) (in pic) as the Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women.

Governor K Rosaiah has appointed Visalakshi Nedunchezhiyan (89) (in pic) as the Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women. 

Born on August 23, 1924 in Salem, Visalakshi received her medical degree in 1946 from Stanley Medical College and joined Public Health Service in 1949.  She married VR Nedunchezhiyan (late), former Minister in 1950. After holding many posts in the department, she retired as the Assistant Director of Public Health in 1982.  She has authored a handbook on Family Planning and translated the 1,000-page book -Child Care- authored by Dr Benjamin Spock, US.  She joined the AIADMK in the year 2000 and till now, functioning as the organising secretary of the party and as a member of the party’s Parliamentary Board.  She was awarded Thanthai Periyar award by the State government on January 16, 2012. 

The Governor appointed Saraswathi Rangasami as the Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
