Noted writer Udayamurthi passes away

Noted Tamil writer and Makkal Sakthi Iyakkam founder M S Udayamurthi (84) passed away on Monday following a cardiac arrest.

Born on April 8, 1928, Udayamurthy pursued a doctorate in Chemistry and worked as a teacher at the Wisconsin University in USA for over two decades.

At the age of 60, he returned to India and launched the Makkal Sakthi Iyakkam.

Udayamurthy was known for his motivational writings, including Ennangal and Unnal Mudiyum Thambi - selling over half-a-million copies.  Some of his works are part of the prescribed course material in several universities, including the University of Madras. 

Udayamurthy has also penned travelogues when he accompanied leaders like C N Annadurai and MGR.
