The Rajasthan Cosmo Club Foundation distributed over 42,000 new school uniforms to students from 207 schools at Bhavan Balaji Vidyasharam School on Sunday. The initiative, which is said to have cost Rs 1,60,000, would benefit over 21,000 students.

Addressing the students and the members from the Rajasthan Cosmo Club, Governor K Rosaiah, the chief guest, said that the socio-economic growth of a nation was dependant on voluntary organisations and various associations which lend a helping hand to the poor.

On the contribution of Rajasthanis in Tamil Nadu, he said, “Rajasthanis are known for their business acumen, acts of philanthropy and social service. I am told that in Tamil Nadu alone there are about 5 lakh Rajasthanis and 3 lakh of them are in Chennai.”

Bharat Galada, managing trustee of the Rajasthan Cosmo Club, said that the foundation’s Cloth Bank has distributed over 1,55,000 new uniforms in less than two decades.

He also made a mention of the distribution of old clothes, which were washed, dried, pressed and packaged by them, before being distributed to corners of the country where they were needed, especially during times of disasters and natural calamities.

Galada also spoke of the RCC-MIT Endowment Scheme, through which the foundation, in association with the Madras Institute of Technology, provides loans to deserving students from poor families. “After the student graduates and gets a job, he or she can repay the loan to the foundation, which again goes back into the endowment to help other students,” he said.
