The Jain International Trade Organisation, Chennai Chapter gave away scholarships to underprivileged and meritorious students.
Atulya Misra, Chairman, Chennai Port Trust, who was the chief guest, distributed the scholarships at the function, which also saw the participation of Srinivas Acharya, Managing Director, Sundaram BNP Paribas Home Finance Ltd., and Motilal Oswal, president, JITO Apex.
Promotion of educational activities is one of the flagship programmes of JITO. In line with JITO Apex, JITO Chennai Chapter, launched a scholarship programme for the under-privileged and meritorious students to promote educational activities, said representatives of JITO, Chennai Chapter.
The programme will be conducted every year and beneficiaries will be school students from Std X to Std XII, undergraduates and postgraduates.
Funds for the scholarship programme will be collected through donations and internal resources of the Chapter.
This year, it was decided to earmark Rs 15 lakh towards scholarship programme, they said.
Out of that, 25 per cent of the amount was given to school students and the remaining to college students.
The scholarship amount was Rs 11,000 for Std X to Std XII, and Rs 21,000 for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Funds will be distributed only to under privileged and meritorious students who have scored 80 per cent of marks and above.
“More than 100 applications were received,” they said. A new chairman and managing board of Jain International Trade Organisation of Chennai Chapter took over for a two-year period.
