Free TET classes for SC/ST students

Express News Service

Ahead of the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) to be conducted in June, Ambedkar Education and Employment Training Centre will conduct free coaching classes for Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for SC/ST candidates from March 16.

Speaking to City Express, one of the co-ordinators of the training centre said, “Last year the government conducted TET exams for 18,000 vacancies in the state. But due to the rule that all candidates should possess 60 percentages of marks in TET exam irrespective of their caste to get employment, 18 + 1 per cent of SC and ST vacancies was not filled up. In states like Andhra Pradesh, 40 per cent of marks in such eligibility test is enough for the SC/ST candidates to gain employment. Even in Tamil Nadu, 40 per cent of marks in graduation is enough for SC/ST students to get BEd admission.”

In order to empower the SC/ST students to perform well in the upcoming TET exams, we opened this training centre, he added.

“Through this centre, we provide training for SC and ST candidates free of cost. Apart from providing training to TET exams, we also give coaching for TNPSC and Bank exams,” he said.

The institute has three centres in the city — one at Bank Employees Federation of India in Teynampet where coaching for bank exams are provided, one near Kachaleeswarar Temple in Parrys where coaching for TNPSC exams are taken and one at Nava Bharath Matriculation School near Periyar Road Bus Stop, T Nagar, where TET coaching classes are held.

From March 16, classes will be held in any two weekdays from 4 pm to 7 pm, and in the weekends the classes will be conducted from 10 am to 5 pm.
