Khushbu Likes it Contemporary

CHENNAI: My fashion mantra is to stay comfortable, said actor-politician Khushbu, at the promotional event of Collage’s new jewellery collection. Trying the heritage-inspired jewellery designed by Pawan Anand, Monica G and Sangeetha Boochra, Khushbu said, “I love Indian jewellery. I am not a fan of modern ones because I do not wear modern clothes. For Indians, contemporary jewellery suits because they can mix and match them with any wear.”

Khushbu gave a slew of options to pair the jewellery pieces with. “One can pair the contemporary necklace with a sari, or wear a long necklace with a bandh gala blouse. A big chunky earring would go with something plain, and a traditional necklace with a little black dress,” she said. Commenting on the designs of the yore, used by the designers, the actor said, “If we do not go back into the past, how will you move into the future? You need to know what has happened in the past, it gives you so much to learn and take to the next generation.”

According to Lata Madhu, who runs the store, the jewellery has been made in silver and polished with gold. The stones used on it are real — be it coral, ruby or onyx. “The collection includes traditional South Indian piece, tribal jewellery, kundans and Moroccan-inspired and Ram-Leela-inspired pieces,” said Lata.

The designers work with craftsmen to create contemporary jewellery. “Pawan Anand doesn’t retail in India except in Chennai. He has clients all over Asia and Europe. He gets his resources from different parts of the world,” said Lata. “It may be traditional, but it is meant for a stylish look, something that can be worn even with a pair of jeans and t-shirt,” she added.  The collection is on display and sale at  Collage, 153, Greams Road.
