CHENNAI: The Madras High Court today issued a notice to Chennai Corporation Mayor's son on a haebeas corpus petition filed by a businessman seeking a direction to produce his wife and daughter who were allgedly being kept in his illegal custody.

The division bench, comprising Justices S Tamilvanan and T Mathivanan, before whom the petition came up, directed that the notice be sent through registered post with acknowledgment and posted the matter to December 22, 2014.

The businessman alleged the Mayor's son became a family friend as he was the President of Chennai Canine Club where his 28-year-old wife was a committee member. He alleged the man got into an illicit relationship with her and started threatening him with dire consequences if he did not agree for a consent divorce.

The businessman also alleged his wife and daughter were missing and he had got 'reliable information' from friends and relatives that they were in the illegal custody of the Mayor's son.

Though he had given a police complaint, they were unable to take any action due to the man's political background, he submitted. He alleged the lives of his wife are in danger and prayed for a direction from the court to the authorities concerned to produce them before the Court.

However, the woman told reporters outside the court premises that she and her daugher were not in illegal custody and that they were staying with her parents.
