CHENNAI: Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE), celebrated its graduation day recently. Prof H Devaraj, vice-chairman of the University Grants Commission, was the chief guest. Dr A C Muthiah, the chairman of the governing council of the college, welcomed the chief guest and spoke about the challenges that the present day engineers face. “Follow professional ethics, which will take you places,” he said.
Professor R Parthiban, principal, presented a report on the graduated batch 2010-14. He said that 11 per cent of the Anna University rank holders in both UG and PG are from SVCE. “Of the 521 students placed, 164 got offers from core companies like Google, Ernst & Young.” Recalling the achievements of the ancient Indians in engineering technology like Kallanai, Wootz Steel, he wished the students success. Talking about the present education system, the chief guest said that strategies should be designed to make education more skill imparting and job oriented. “We have more employment seekers, but less employment generators. The higher technical education system in India should be reviewed by experts from time to time to provide the vision and directions for its future growth,” he added.
