Anna University has approached the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to make available the Class XII examination results of its students in the State direct to the Anna University. The request has been made in an attempt to facilitate the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA).
The university has announced the deadline for the submission of filled-in application forms for the Engineering admissions before May 20. But the timing of the CBSE class 12 results that are usually out only by May-end would mean the students of the board would not be able to stick to the deadline.
But authorities with the TNEA said that postponing the deadline for submission of forms would lead to a delay in the whole admission process. “We have approached the CBSE to provide the 12th class results of the students of Tamil Nadu directly to us. We are hoping for a positive response. Pushing off the deadline further would delay the admission process especially since we have lakhs of admissions to process out of which the proportion of CBSE was extremely low. As such, we are now looking at options by which the CBSE students can send in their application forms to us without filling in their marks,” said V Rhymend Uthariaraj, secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions. The secretary pointed out that if at all the CBSE and Anna University were unable to fix a direct mechanism to communicate the results, the students can send in a photocopy of their downloaded marks to the university at a later date.
Meanwhile, CBSE schools have approached the CBSE headquarters over the confusion over Class 12 results and the TNEA. “We have approached the Delhi headquarters and submitted a letter requesting them to either make the results available faster or ask the Anna University to evolve a mechanism to ensure that the CBSE students do not get left out of the engineering admissions,” said Ajeeth Prasad Jain, secretary of Chennai Sahodaya School Complex for CBSE Schools.
Also, the regional office of the CBSE said the announcement of the results faster would be challenging especially after the examinations were delayed this year due to the LS elections. “CBSE had to postpone many of its Class 12 examinations due to elections. Since we have many more subjects, the last exam could be completed only by April 25. As such putting out the results earlier would be a challenge,” said D T Sudarshan Rao, regional officer, CBSE, Chennai region.
