CHENNAI: Southern Railways commemorated the golden jubilee of the Chennai-Bangalore Brindavan Express in an event held at the Chennai Central Railway Station on Wednesday. However, quite a few passengers wondered if the train itself had become a neglected child.

“The air-conditioned coach of the train has been removed. The number of reserved coaches has also come down. On-train pantry has been stopped. This has caused problems to regular passengers of this very popular train,” said a member of the Indian Railway Fans Club Association (IRFCA), the organisation responsible for organising the event.

When City Express asked General Manager of Southern Railway Rakesh Misra  about withdrawal of the AC coach, he said that the fully air-conditioned double decker train was being operated around the same time as the Brindavan Express.

Misra then inspected the coach for the disabled, in the train and heard the grievances of the people assembled at the platform before flagging off the train.

The Brindavan Express was introduced in 1964 and is one of the few trains  which has had steam, diesel and now an electric locomotive.
