East Mogappair to get Amma Theatre

Express News Service

CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation will take over a 3.94 acre land, belonging to the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB), in Mogappair East to set up Amma Weekly Market and Amma Theatre complex.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the Council meeting on Saturday. The Padi area in Mogappair has a population of over 10,000 and as such there was a need to construct these infrastructures to benefit the people, it said.

There were some issues concerning the land as its previous owner had sought to reclaim it from TNHB as the land remained unutilised for  long. But, the council maintained that it wasn’t a problem any longer since a proposal has been placed to TNHB for the civic body to formally take over the land, or rent it out at nominal rates.
