Actress Turns Thief in Real Life, Steals 3 Laptops

CHENNAI: A 24-year-old supporting actress was arrested on Monday after she allegedly stole three laptops from a working women’s hostel in Nungambakkam.

Police said they received a complaint from the Usha Hostel on Kumarappa Street stating that three laptops were missing since afternoon.

Footage from the CCTV installed on the hostel campus was perused and a woman was spotted leaving the premises with the laptops. She was identified as Abhinaya, (24), from Koyambedu, who had come there earlier looking for accommodation there.

Subsequently, Abhinaya was picked up and the laptops recovered from her possession. Abhinaya claimed she was performing small roles in tinsel town.

ATM Break-in Bid

An attempt was made to loot the ATM installed in the branch of State Bank of Mysore (SBM) on Landons Road, Kilpauk on Monday.

Police said the miscreants, who came to the ATM in the wee hours, attempted to break the machine using a chisel.

However, the efforts went futile. They dropped the chisel and fled the scene on spotting customers.

Held for Ruckus

Elephant Gate police arrested a middle-aged man for preventing them from discharging their duty. Elephant Gate Traffic Enforcement Inspector Ramachandran intercepted two persons riding a two-wheeler on Sunday night and found them to be drunk. Subsequently, the duo was handed over to the Law & Order wing.

However, a gang led by one Muthu, allegedly clad in advocate outfit, stormed into the police station and created a ruckus. In the melee, they managed to whisk the duo from the station. A case was registered against Muthu.
