A Fantasy Ride for Children

The play brought to life the famous villains of fairytales on stage

CHENNAI: Fantasy was recreated on stage, as children watched their favourite villains from fairy tales come to life at Egmore Museum Theatre recently.

The Indigo Kids edutainment group from Mumbai, along with The Wonder Years Play School, presented Once Upon a Time Long Long Ago, a play that featured The Little Red Riding Hood, Three Billy Goats Gruff and Hansel and Gretel.

The Little Red Riding Hood got the kids in the audience partially siding with the wolf, though he played the part of the hilarious villain. Billy Goats Gruff, on the other hand, had everyone rooting against the ugly, dirty and silly troll. The Wicked Witch from Hansel and Gretel had more than her fair share of fans. This was evident when she asked the children in the audience to join her in her Gingerbread House and they responded with a unanimous ‘Yes!’ amid the chuckles of their parents. Was it probably due to the lure of candy canes and sweets? we wondered. At the end of the night, Hansel and Gretel found their way back home and so did the children, each sucking a bright yellow lollipop, probably to read more fairy tales at home.
