Adieu to a Beloved Professor

Express News Service

CHENNAI:  How often do you come across someone who chooses one’s course based on the person who teaches it? Meet S Balaji, a student from the Department of Management Studies, University of Madras, who chose to take up Management Studies only because he loved the way professor PT Srinivasan taught. “I knew professor PT Srinivasan even before I joined the course. He was one of the main reasons I took up the course,” said Balaji, speaking to City Express, on the sidelines of a felicitation event that was organised for the professor and former head of the department on the Chepauk campus of the University of Madras on Sunday.

The felicitation ceremony for Srinivasan, who had been a faculty at the University for three decades, coincided with the 2015 Alumni Meet and Placement Day. Balaji said that PTS, as Srinivasan is referred to by his students, was always approachable. A short documentary about Srinivasan and his journey from a student to a professor was screened. One could see Srinivasan getting a tad nostalgic at the event, which also saw the presence of the vice-chancellor R Thandavan and registrar P David Jawahar.  The alumni had created an endowment of Rs 2,00,000 under the name Professor ‘PT Srinivasan Endowment Lecture’, as a tribute to the professor, and presented it to him on the occasion. Srinivasan is succeeded by professor R Thenmozhi.
