CHENNAI:  B S Abdur Rahman University hosted a four-week International Development Design Summit (IDDS – Aarogyam, meaning good health) on its campus here, recently.

IDDS is a hands-on design experience that brings people from diverse nationalities and socio-economic statuses to create low-cost, practical innovations to improve the lives of people living in poverty. Over 65 participants from 20 countries participated in the event.

IDDS 2015 was sponsored by the US Global Development Lab powered by the United States Agency for International Development, supported by International Development Innovation Network and coordinated by Hive International. The Innovation design and development frame work was developed and supported by the design lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.

The participant teams have been working in local communities around Chennai to gather information and test their ideas for low-cost, functional and sustainable designs to support community members in accessing quality healthcare services.
