CHENNAI: With a view avoid escalating tension between the AIADMK and DMDK following the removal of her picture by DMDK cadre at Thanjavur on December 28, Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday appealed to the party cadre not to burn the effigies of Vijaykant.

"DMDK leader Vijaykant and their cadre have attempted to divert the attention of the AIADMK cadre from serving the people.  The AIADMK cadre should not fall into that trap. Even if the DMDK cadre stoop to any low, we should keep our decorum and dignity.  The People of Tamil Nadu will teach a befitting lesson to Vijaykant in the ensuing Assembly elections. Let the law takes its own course with regard to their act in Thanjavur", the Chief Minister said in a statement here.

Recalling what had happened at Thanjavur, Jayalalithaa said the DMDK cadre removed a flex board with Vijaykant picture near the dais where Vijaykant was addressing the people on December 28 as the board was obstructing the view of Vijaykant.  The DMDK leader thought the AIADMK cadre were trying to remove his picture and had directed his party cadre to remove her picture in the bus stop nearby. Immediately, the DMDK cadre removed her picture.

On Knowing this, AIADMK cadre had started burning the effigies of Vijaykant and she came to know that they had planned to continue this agitation in many other places.  "The AIADMK's aim is to serve the people and the party cadre should not fall into the trap being laid by the DMDK leader", she added.
