CHENNAI: For the old boys of Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School, Chetpet, this Friday turned out to be a special day as  the most memorable part of the school campus was finally resurrected in a new avatar.

The Miller Hall, named after one of the renowned principals of the institution Rev Dr William Miller, was the first building of the MCC School. However, it was demolished  in October 2012 for renovation.

The school was  started in the city, way back in 1950. It housed a kitchen, a dining hall and an auditorium for various cultural activities.

“But over a period of time, it was found out that the building needed renovation and reinforcement. Only this made the management and old students to give consent for the demolition of the building, with a heavy heart, of course. And we could agree with the plan because we were told that a new three -storeyed building was to be set up,” said Arun Mammen, president, Old Boys Association, MCC School.

Governor Rosiah, who spoke at the inauguration of the newly-built Miller Hall on Friday, commended the school for being a pioneer in community service education. He also recollected the association governors of the past shared with the esteemed institution.

The newly inaugurated Miller Hall has a kitchen and a dining room, apart from laboratories for art, physics and chemistry subjects. A hostel office besides a huge auditorium for the various cultural events of the school are housed on the ground floor and the school has plans to add a computer lab and conference hall in the near future.
