CHENNAI:  A 26-year-old volleyball player was quizzed on Thursday after he was booked on charges of breach of trust and threatening his live-in woman partner.

Sources said Naveen Raja Jacob, who is working as a manager of Indian Overseas Bank in the City, reportedly entered into a relationship six years ago with Priyanka (26), a volleyball player working as a coach. They were living together. She used to come to Chennai and stay in Naveen’s apartment during weekends and vice-versa.

Naveen had promised to marry her with the consent of his parents and claimed that the climate prevailing in the family was not conducive yet for that.

However, Naveen took Priyanka to the wedding of his sister in Thoothukudi and introduced her to his relatives as his own wife. They both stayed in a separate room in Naveen’s house during the marriage with the knowledge of his father Manidurai and his step-mother. Later Naveen reportedly became intimate with another women and Priyanka chided him and urged him to amend his ways. In turn, Naveen assured her that he would not deviate from her in future.

Last month, Priyanka learnt through a congregation member of St John’s Church which was governed by Thoothukudi-Nazareth CSI Diocese, that Naveen had married the daughter of a police official working in Coimbatore.

Priyanka went to Thoothukudi and registered her objection in writing to the Church to stop reading further wedding bands and received an acknowledgment for the same.

Enraged over this, Naveen phoned Priyanka on June 20, 2015 and asked her what role she played in his life to prevent the wedding from taking place. Later, Naveen’s father and kin went to Bengaluru, and created a scene in Priyanka’s residence on June 21, 2015.

They threatened Priyanka to get out of Naveen’s life.

The next day Priyanka received a call from the ACP whose daughter was to be Naveen’s bride. The official also suggested that Priyanka should let this issue die so that his daughter’s marriage could take place without a hitch.

Subsequently, she filed a complaint with Police Commissioner S George who has forwarded the complaint to T Nagar All Women Police Station. Naveen was booked and was being quizzed to verify Priyanka’s claims in her complaint.
