Express News Service

CHENNAI:The Tamil Nadu Police on Wednesday assured the Madras High Court that adequate, sufficient and proper protection would be given to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi when he visits Tiruchy.

There would be no lapse or let-up in security arrangements, said V Subbiah, Special Government Pleader, in the submission following a petition moved by advocate AP Suriyaprakasam.

The petitioner pointed out that the Congress vice president would be visiting Tiruchy on Thursday to study the agrarian crisis in the country, particularly Tamil Nadu.

He would also participate in the birth anniversary celebrations of the late Chief Minister K Kamaraj.

Though Rahul Gandhi was being protected by the Special Protection Group as he is under Z-plus category, the outer ring of the security had to be provided by the State police, said the petitioner, adding that he approached the court since the police failed to respond to his representation in this regard. Placing the submissions made by the Government Pleader on record, Justice M Sathya

narayanan disposed of the petition while directing the police to provide adequate protection to the Congress leader.
