Passing Out Ceremony at Vels University

CHENNAI: For the seventh time after the formation of Vels University, in June 2008, a passing-out ceremony of 106 Navigating cadets and Marine Engineering cadets was conducted at its School of Maritime Studies campus, Thalambur recently.

Twenty-one Navigating cadets, completed a three-year B. Sc. Nautical Science course, to be followed by sea service of one year on board ships. Seventy seven Marine Engineering cadets completed a four-year BE Marine Engineering course and a sea service of six months on board ships. Eight cadets of the Higher National Diploma course completed their first year of study in India and will now proceed for the second year of study at City of Glasgow College, in Scotland, UK.  Captain S Krishnamurthi, Executive Vice President of Sanmar Shipping Ltd, was the chief guest and presented the awards and certificates. Captain Koji Higashijima, CEO & MD, and Captain S Goyal, Director, both of ‘K’ Line Ship Management Co Ltd., were the guests of honour.  School of Maritime Studies, the flagship of Vels University has retained A1 “Outstanding” grading in the CIP (Comprehensive Inspection Programme) conducted by IRS (Indian Register of Shipping). Pro Chancellor Dr Jothi Murugan, Pro Chancellor Mrs Arthi Ganesh and Registrar of the University Dr Krishnamoorthy were present. Ajit Seshadri, course-coordinator, proposed a vote of thanks.
