CHENNAI: For a view through the glasses of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities, the Chennai Rainbow Film Festival starting June 26 a will provide repertoire of full-length and short films based on their life. The festival organised by Chennai Dost, a support group for the gay, lesbian, bisexual men and women in the city, will screen films and documentaries in Special Category based on the theme ‘Expressions’ which depict the discrimination, harassment, violence and abuse the community has been subject to, since Supreme Court ruling on Section 377.
The three-day festival will screen handpicked 30 Indian and international short films out of the close to 400 entries submitted. Besides, a feature film Magizhvan that also throws light on the plight of the community will be played.
A round up of cultural shows that include performances from the team, a stage play from the Kattiyakaari troupe, a contemporary dance performance by a Bengaluru-based dancer and a musical performance by Chemistry club – the LGBTQ students’wing of Chennai Dost - is also being organised. Entry is free and open for all.
Cultural activities apart, there would be panel discussions by actress Anupama, writer Manushyaputran among the panelists and an award ceremony wherein celebrities who have supported the LGBT communities’ cause would be honoured.
