Writ Petition on Highways Project

CHENNAI: A writ plea has been filed in the Madras High Court to quash a tender notification, dated January 12 this year, which was issued  by the Superintending Engineer, Highways, Chennai Circle, Nungambakkam, and which re-introduced package system by clubbing all major and minor works relating to road-laying.  The petition from the Tamil Nadu Highway Department Contractors Welfare Sangam, by its president K Mohan, also prayed for a direction to the SE to split the package system into two - finishing contract workers and small contract workers. When the petition came up before Justice R Subbiah on Thursday, Additional Government Pleader P Sanjay Gandhi took notice on behalf of the Highways department.
