Swathi's murder: Ram Kumar stalked Swathi for three months says Police Commissioner

A special team which pinned down Ram Kumar as the accused went to Tirunelveli to secure him.

CHENNAI: The City Police Commissioner T K Rajendran confirmed that the prime suspect in the Swathy murder case, P Ram Kumar had stalked the victim while on her to work and back home for the last three months.  

Addressing the press here, he said Ram Kumar, a 22-year-old engineering graduate came to the city in search of a job. While investigating the case which was initially under the purview of the Egmore Railway Police, the city police had requested the public to share as much information as possible. 

Not only people of the city and the state, people from across the world gave them information which helped the in tracking this case, said Rajendran adding that Swathi's parents were also cooperative in spite of their grieving time. 

A special team which pinned down Ram Kumar as the accused went to Tirunelveli to secure him. Realising that he has been cornered, Ram Kumar slit his throat with a knife he had with him. He was administered first aid at Tenkasi Government Hospital and was later shifted to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital. 

The Commissioner replying to questions about the motive, said that Ram Kumar was stalking her for three months on her way to office and back home and had the intend to befriend her. Since that couldn't happen, he hacked her. 

However the Commissioner evaded further questions in the case and claimed that they had all evidence to prove that he was the prime accused in the case. Ruling out speculations about an accomplice being involved, the police confirmed that Ram Kumar is the lone suspect in the case.
