CHENNAI: Expressing concern over recurring instances of avalanche-triggered deaths of army jawans, DMK President M Karunanidhi today urged the Centre to find a solution to the matter.

Condoling the death of 23 year-old soldier Vijay Kumar, hailing from Sankarankovil in Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi said his demise came close on the heels of a similar avalanche in Siachen last month in which 10 personnel, including two from the state, were killed.

"With such incidents happening often, I insist that a solution should be found by the Central government," he said in a statement here.

The DMK chief also extended his sympathies to the family of the deceased Army soldier, who had died in an avalanche in Kargil area of Jammu and Kashmir recently.
