CHENNAI: Music is everything to me,” says Kabir Ahmed Khan, a 19-year-old solo performer in the band Nomadic Stone.The audience was spellbound as Kabir rendered Dolly Parton’s Do I Ever Cross Your Mind’ at the Queer and Allies Fest. His journey into music began when he saw a video of Kurt Cobian playing The Man Who Sold the World on MTV in 1994, motivating him to learn guitar. “My mother brought me an old fender, and I started writing songs,” says Kabir, who covers acoustic, pop, and country style of music. The youngest performer at the fest, Kabir had flown in from Pune, to support Shyam Konnur, the organiser of the event. Kabir is a staunch supporter of the LGBT community and is eager to perform next year at the Queer Fest. “Race, gender, religion and sexual preference don't matter to me. We are all people and we’re equal.” Currently, Kabir is working on his solo project called ‘Awaara Panchi’. A college drop-out, Kabir is also working on his EP which has five songs, slated for release in September.
