CHENNAI: In a bid to celebrate the birthday and commemorate the life and times of eminent writer and journalist from Tamil Nadu Subramania Bharathi, Vanavil Cultural Centre is organising their annual grand concert ‘Barathi Aindhu’ in Triplicane, Chennai, for the first time. Taking inspiration from the celebration that happens at Thiruvaiyyaru during Thiyagaraya aradhana, the cultural centre is looking to bring forth the same in front of the Parthasarathy Temple on December 10 and 11. Vanavil will also bestow their Barathiar Award to actress, singer and dancer Vyjayanthimala, with poet and lyricist Vairamuthu touted to deliver a speech on her.

In addition to the awards, around 300 singers including prominent artists like TM Krishna, Sangeetha Sivakumar, Aruna Sairam, OS Arun, and Unnikrishnan would be performing at the event. Five songs of Bharathi have been chosen and will be performed on December 11 at NKT National Girls High School.
