Now, pay spot fines for traffic violations in Chennai using cards

CHENNAI: Motorists in the city can now pay up fines for traffic violations using credit and debit cards with the police ushering in the cashless system to enhance transparency.

The cashless spot fine payment system was introduced with the launch of 100 Point of Sale (POS) machines through which fines can be paid.

"This is done to increase transparency and is a move towards cashless spot fine system," a release from City Police said.

The "violators" can pay the fine using credit or debit cards on the POS machines available with traffic officials, it said, adding payment of fine through cash would also continue.
