CHENNAI: Three college students riding triples in a motorcycle overtook the Chief Minister’s convoy very narrowly on Saturday morning and gave a few tense moments to the police officers.

The convoy was passing through Kamarajar Salai around 10.30 am and was nearing the Kannagi statue when the motorcycle at high speed entered the convoy and even managed to overtake the pilot vehicle.

“They started driving zig-zag on the road ahead of the convoy. When the traffic police personnel tried to stop them, they managed to evade them and continue riding on the road,” said a Sub-Inspector was on the spot.

However, around five policemen stood blocking the road at the Labour statue. The youth suddenly took to the wrong side of the route. But they could not proceed further as they were struck in traffic coming from the opposite direction.

Police said the youth have been identified as S Jomy Varghese, 19, A Arun, 22, and V Keerthivasan, 20. All three are studying in different colleges and all three were arrested on the charge of rash driving and lodged in Puzhal prison.
