CHENNAI: Since a massive number of students apply for counselling every year, there is a chance that two or more students might share the same cut off score. In case of candidates securing same scores for maths, physics, chemistry and biology or computer science, date of birth (DOB) is considered.

Random numbers come into play only if there was no difference in the DOB. Last year, random numbers played a crucial role in the admission of 27 students into top engineering colleges. Applicants could get to know their random number details from the university’s official website (www.annauniv.edu/).

Speaking to reporters after releasing the random number, higher education secretary Sunil Paliwal said rank list for this year’s counselling would be generated and released on June 22 (Thursday) with counselling for special category students likely to begin on June 27 as per schedule.
Counselling for general category students would begin on July 1.

“This year 11 engineering colleges which had applied for closure were granted permission to phase out and they will not be a part of 2017 TNEA,” Paliwal added. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had already approved the closure application of these 11 institutes.
