CHENNAI: India’s obsession with American politics might have reached an all-time high on social media especially after Trump was elected but we still don’t fail to take a jibe at the superpower’s politics and enjoy the comedy of it all.
Naturally, a video titled ‘Hillary Dance Video’ is bound to catch anyone’s attention. But a good Samaritan somewhere decided to start circulating messages warning WhatsApp users to not click on the video link because it contains malware. The message read: “It is a virus that formats your mobile. It is very dangerous. It was mentioned on BBC radio today. Beware.”
While the good Samaritans intentions maybe good, it is important to note that no such video exists and therefore no malware or virus. A similar message went viral two years ago but titled differently as being the dance video of the pope.
The BBC also made no such announcement claiming that the message was just another hoax, even suggesting that if viewers were interested then they could click on the link of an actual video of Hillary Clinton dancing at the popular Ellen Show.
However, it’s prudent to be wary of video links. Verify the links and scan it before you download it. Not just because the computer can get a virus but also because cyber crimes are on the rise. Hackers have different strategies to make their way inot your phone through an unknown computer and rob you of your finances and even misuse the data and photos you have saved in your phone and computer.
