Former Chennai police Commissioner S George is DGP, Fire & Rescue

The Election Commission had on March 24 ordered the transfer of senior IPS officer George as City Police Commissioner, following a complaint by DMK, ahead of the RK Nagar Assembly bypoll.

Chennai, May 3 (PTI) Former City Police Commissioner S George, recently transferred from the post by the Election Commission ahead of the now cancelled April 12 R K Nagar bypoll, has been appointed the DGP, Fire and Rescue Services.      

George, who was in the "vacancy reserve" following his shunting out, will replace R S Kudawla, a Home Department order said.      

Kudawla has been posted as the ADGP, Training, Chennai.      

The Election Commission had on March 24 ordered the transfer of senior IPS officer George as City Police Commissioner, following a complaint by DMK, ahead of the RK Nagar Assembly bypoll. He was replaced by Karan Singha.      

The bypoll was, however, later cancelled over money distribution. The election was necessitated due to the death of sitting MLA and then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in December last.      

Meanwhile, the government effected the transfer of some more IPS officers, including P Thamarai Kannan, Additional Commissioner of Police, Intelligence, Chennai, and posted him as Inspector General, CID, Chennai in an existing vacancy.
