CHENNAI: Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha on Sunday celebrated its foundation day centenary and a commemorative postal stamp was released to mark the event.
The stamp contains a photo of Mahatma Gandhi, founder-president of the Sabha, and a letter written by him. The Sabha was inaugurated by Annie Besant on June 17, 1918 and the first Hindi class was conducted by Devdas Gandhi, youngest son of Mahatma Gandhi. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was the president of the Sabha at a point. The institution currently runs eight postgraduate centres, 41 teacher training institutions, five CBSE schools and several Hindi teaching centres.
