CHENNAI: The Chennai City Police have recovered the body of a two-year-old child from the Cooum River near Madhya Kailash a day after her father's body was found stuffed inside a gunny bag in Adyar on Monday.
The body of the 24-year-old man, Gaurav Kumar, had been found after residents discovered an abandoned sack near an apartment complex and alerted police.
During the probe, CCTV footage recovered from the area showed that two men carried the gunny bag on a two-wheeler and dumped it at the spot.
Five suspects, all hailing from Bihar and reportedly acquainted with the victim, were detained.
Shockingly, police sources said the suspects allegedly confessed to having killed Gaurav’s wife too.
While the baby's body has now been recovered near Madhya Kailash on Tuesday, the search is on for the body of the victim’s wife in the Perungudi landfill area.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Gaurav had arrived in Chennai on January 21 with his wife and child in search of a job. However, the police are yet to ascertain the motive, sequence of events in the case.
