NEW DELHI: Two days after charges of rape and arrest the sacked Delhi lawmaker, Sandeep Kumar was on Monday remanded three day police custody.
The former Women and Child development minister was arrested on September 3 after a woman who figured in the objectionable video approached police with a complaint of sexual harassment against Kumar, following which a case was filed.
According to the police, the sacked minister has been booked under section 376 (rape), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offence) of IPC, under section 67A of IT Act (punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration for an official act).
The victim in her complaint states that 11 months ago Kumar offered a spiked drink to her and when she fell unconscious , was taken to his house adjacent to his outer Delhi's Sultanpuri office and raped. The woman had gone there seeking help in obtaining a ration card.
Kumar was removed from the AAP government on August 31 by Kejriwal after the CD purportedly showing him in a compromising position with the woman surfaced.
Meanwhile, the minister’s personal assistant Praveen Kumar was picked up and detained by the Delhi police after the former lawmaker alleged “blackmailing” at his hands. "As of now, we have detained him for questioning from Delhi Secretariat," said a senior police official.
During questioning by police, Sandeep had claimed innocence alleging that Praveen had "tried to blackmail" him and "threatened to harm his public image".
The Delhi unit of the BJP in an unflinching attack on the party has trained it guns on the Delhi CM Kejriwal.
“It is amazing that a Minister is involved in making porn videos while his O.S.D (Praveen) is involved in floating them in social media. The credibility of AAP is at all time low and Arvind Kejriwal owes an explanation to the nation on the sex sagas of his party colleagues” said Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay.
