NEW DELHI:  A city court on Wednesday sought a status report from Delhi Police on what action it has taken on the FIRs registered against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment charges alleged by grapplers.

Issuing notice on the plea seeking cops’ monitoring on the probe and recording of the statement of the alleged victims before the court, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal at Rouse Avenue court fixed the matter for the next hearing on May 12.

The country’s top wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat, have been protesting at Jantar Mantar demanding the arrest of Singh. The wrestlers moved the court seeking a court-monitored investigation and sought recording of their statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The wrestlers’ counsel submitted that nothing has been done by the police to date and that they are not ready to conduct any inquiry. Advocates Dr SS Hooda, Anindya Malhotra, Shaurya Lamba, Nandita Hooda and Rashi Choudhary appeared for the wrestlers. The women wrestlers had earlier approached the Supreme Court and two FIRs were registered on April 28.
