NEW DELHI: A 2011 batch IFS officer died on Friday after allegedly jumping from the fourth floor of a building in central Delhi’s Chanakyapuri area, police said. The victim has been identified as Jitendra Rawat (42), worked with the Department of Overseas Indian Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs.
Rawat, who returned from his posting in Belgium last year, had been residing on the first floor of the MEA Residential Complex for past nine months. He went to the fourth floor of the building from where he lept to his death. No suicide note has been found from the spot.
Preliminary probe suggests that he was suffering from depression. No foul play is being suspected. According to an eyewitness, he heard a loud noise when he was present near the complex, following which all the nearby people rushed to the spot. Later, police were informed about the incident.
Police got a call regarding the incident around 6.20 am on Friday and rushed to the spot. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. His wife and children stay in Dehradun, and they have been informed about the incident.
According to a statement by the MEA, an officer MEA passed away on Friday morning and the department is cooperating with the police authority. “An officer of the Ministry of External Affairs passed away on Friday morning in New Delhi. The Ministry is providing all possible assistance to the family, and is in touch with the Delhi Police.
