Lieutenant Governor Sandhu declares government holiday on September 11 for BRICS summit

The decision is aimed at minimising inconvenience to the general public during the summit. The event is expected to entail extensive security and traffic arrangements across Delhi.

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has declared a holiday on September 11 for all government offices, autonomous bodies and public sector undertakings under the Delhi Government due to the BRICS Summit.

The BRICS business forum and the 18th BRICS leaders’ summit are scheduled to be held from September 11 to 13 at the Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.As per the official statement, the decision to close Central government offices has been taken considering the substantial logistical arrangements involved in hosting the high-level event in the capital.

The decision is aimed at minimising inconvenience to the general public during the summit. The event is expected to entail extensive security and traffic arrangements across Delhi.

Large-scale beautification, road maintenance, and civic upgrades are underway across the New Delhi Cantonment, airport routes, and Lutyens Delhi ahead of the upcoming 18th BRICS Summit.

Senior traffic police officers held a meeting with the representatives of Bar Associations of the Supreme Court, High Court and Patiala House Court to brief them about the traffic management plans for the summit. 

The representatives were apprised of the specific traffic and parking arrangements being made to effectively manage congestion and parking-related issues during the summit and to minimise inconvenience to the legal fraternity and litigants visiting the courts.

The summit will be attended by leaders from about 30 BRICS member and partner countries, heads of international organisations and business representatives from BRICS nations, including India.
