HYDERABAD: “Discipline and hard work are the key to success,” said N Shivlal Yadav, secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, while inaugurating the one-month summer camp at Gymkhana grounds here on Thursday.
The former Test off-spinner and National selector advised the young cricketers to make use of the camp. “The camp is the right place to rectify your mistakes. Don’t hesitate to consult the coaches if you have any doubts in your game,” he added.
Yadav asked the trainees to work hard and become successful cricketers. “A player should have an ambition to play well and represent the State and the country,” he said.
Apart from learning cricketing skills, Yadav emphasized the importance of fitness. “The cricketers should also concentrate on fitness training. This will help the sportsperson become better fielders, batsmen and bowlers,’’ he said. Citing an example of Hyderabad’s DB Ravi Teja who took a brilliant running catch, running from square-leg to mid-wicket, against Royal Challengers to dismiss Robin Uthappa in the ongoing IPL tournament in South Africa on Wednesday, Yadav said the cricketers should be more athletic on the field.
Yadav warned that laxity would not be tolerated.
“If any trainee is found to be indisciplined, he would be removed from the camp.” The camp has been divided into four groups — seniors, juniors, under-16 and under-14.
There will be 38 boys in this group. Vijay Mohan Raj, Noshir Mehta, Mirza Faiyaz Baig and P Ramesh Kumar will be in charge of this group.
The junior category would be handled by Noel Inder David, R Sridhar and Youraj Singh. There are 38 boys in this section. V Prahlad, Vidyuth Jaisimha, T Vijay Kumar and Abhijit Chatterjee will take care of the under-16 players which has 47 boys. The under-14 camp, which has 43 boys, will be looked after by Maheshwar Singh, T Dilip and NS Ganesh.
Former Test left-arm spinner and national selector SL Venkatapathy Raju will be overall in-charge while Amarnath and E Gopal will be coordinators. The HCA is conducting the summer camp for the women cricketers also. It will be held in the evening under Abdul Bari Wahab.
