HYDERABAD: Handwritten miniature manuscripts, relics and old weapons and photographs of historical importance belonging to the Sikh religion are on display at the Salar Jung Museum.

The 10-day special exhibition coupled with an educational programme and cultural activities on 300 years of Gurta Gaddi of Sri Guru Granth Sahibji got underway here on Sunday.

The Sikh Heritage Foundation Hyderabad Deccan and SJM are organising the exhibition.

It will continue up to May 5.

Prof Manjeet Singh (former jathedar of Keshgarh Saheb, Punjab) said that Guru Granth Sahibji is a unique book that preaches equality, humanity, peace and brotherhood.

The Granth contains the writings belonging to different religions. People ought to shed animosity respect each other irrespective of caste and religion, Jathedar said.

SHFHD chairman, S Harpreet Singh, convenor, S Sajjan Singh and S Inderjeet Singh Malhotra said holy relics of Sikh Gurus such as dastars (turbans), hukumnamas (royal decrees), cholas (clothes) of Guru Hargobind Sahibji and several rare manuscripts of Sri Guru Granth Sahibji and Dasam Granth Sahib brought from different parts of the country will be exhibited.

SJM director A Nagender Reddy said that they were happy to be associated in organising the special exhibition and cultural activities during the next 10 days. Rare manuscripts, relics and others of historical importance are being displayed, he said.

A national seminar on ‘Sri Guru Granth Sahibji — a spiritual guide’ will be organised at 11 am on April 27. Manjeet Singh, Gyani Pratap Singh (Head Granthi of Sri Hazur Sahib), Veena Agarwal (Reader, Guru Teghbahadar Khalsa College, Delhi University), Bhai Esher Singh will participate.

A Dastar Divas (Turban competition for youngsters) will be held on April 29, followed by demonstration of Gatka by Kalgidhar Jatha and Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Akhada.
