HYDERABAD: A case under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act has been registered against film actress and TDP leader Kavitha in the Sanjeev Reddy Nagar police station Wednesday.

According to S R Nagar, Kavitha engaged two girls, both minors, hailing from Mandapeta in East Godavari for doing domestic work in her house at S R Nagar.

The two girls were working in Kavitha’s house since December last.

According to police, the TDP leader used to harass the girls mentally and physically and also abuse them in the name of their caste. The girls, who belong to SC community, lodged a complaint with the S R Nagar police against Kavitha.

“A case under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act has been registered against Kavitha and investigations are on,” S R Nagar police inspector D Pratap said.

The employment of the two minor girls, however, did not amount to child labour as they have crossed 14 years of age, police said.

Kavitha recently joined the TDP and is likely to contest from Visakhapatnam.
