HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) today celebrated the World Environment Day by organizing a green rally which was flagged off by Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy at his camp office. Rally took place from CM’s camp office to Sri Guru Gobind Singhji stadium near Ameerpet.

According to a press release here, the United Nations Environment programme has declared the theme for the year’s celebrations as `Your planet needs you - Unite to combat climate change.’ As part of World Environment Day, the APPCB has organized a Statelevel function and cultural programmes at Jubilee Hall in Public gardens. Speaking on the occasion, Forests and Environment Minister P Ramachandra Reddy said that the day was meant to spread awareness among the people to protect the environment.

He wanted the people to reduce usage of plastics. The Government was planning to plant one lakh saplings in every Assembly constituency with public participation, he added.

APPCB member secretary K Madhusudana Rao, MLA Shahjahan Basha, officials of various Government departments, NGOs, environmental activists, industrial employees and others participated in the programme.
