HYDERABAD: Abid Hussain , Chancellor of The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) urged students to question the accepted beliefs and practices to understand the true meaning of Indian.
During his lecture on ‘What is an Indian and Why I am an Indian’ at EFLU campus, Abid Hussain said India is in the villages and in the eyes of villagers.
He recalled an episode between Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore wherein in spite of both respecting each other they stuck to their diverse reactions to the 1923 earthquake in Patna.
Similarly, he suggested that all Indians question the ideas and views of elders but respect their views as well.
He said that all the students who had gathered in the packed auditorium, who were glued to his speech to read Discovery of India authored by Jawaharlal Nehru to understand the diversity and history of India.
Abid Hussain released three books - 361 degree — A step ahead, newsletter of EFLU, Essential Russianwritten by the students and the faculty of EFLU.
