HYDERABAD: The students of the first batch of the polytechnic course at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), despite having qualified E-CET-2011, were not allowed lateral entry into B Tech courses, alleged the principal of Polytechnic at MANUU.   A press note issued by him, accused the state department of technical education of discrimination against minority students.

The students of 2008-2011 batch at MANUU were denied admission during counselling of B.Tech programme for lateral entry through E-CET on July 14 even while students from other polytechnic colleges were granted admission, said the press release.  The reason given was that the polytechnic programme at MANUU was not recognised by AICTE. MANUU has clarified that central universities do not need AICTE approval for starting any course.

The vice-chancellor of the university has requested the commissioner of technical Education Dr P Lakshmi Narayan to issue necessary directives to admit the students to B.Tech/B.E programs without inconvenience.
