Marking the 50th anniversary of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, city based theatre group, Kartaal productions will showcase its Indian Broadway premiere. In the 2nd year of their production, Kartaal brings a Tony Award Stage Play and an Oscar-winning film, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” with an aim of promoting world literature via the medium of theatre, it is aimed to address a regional subject demanding international attention. The play is an ode to the immortal performances and beauty of Elizabeth Taylor. (She portrayed the role of Martha in the film adaptation of the play, which was directed by Mike Nicholos)
Produced by Seema Azharuddin and directed by Dr K Shrikanth Iyengar, the play features Tollywood actor, Kamal Kamaraju, Sumi, Seema Azharuddin and Dr K Shrikanth Iyengar.
The highlight of the play is its music. For the very first time, the music of the play has been composed by music maestro Ilayaraja and will be conducted by The Ilayaraja Film Orchestra, Chennai along with the members of the Hungarian Philharmonic Orchestra.
The play will be staged at Ravindra Bharathi on October 22, 23 and 24, 7 pm onwards. A part of the proceeds of the show will go to the AIDS program in Andhra Pradesh, Mahila Mandali, Chirala, Prakasam Dist and for the education of the deserved and needy children.
