HYDERABAD: The state government has extended the benefit of interest waiver on arrears and current year dues of property tax for 2011-12, for another month, ie, up to April 30 in all municipalities and municipal corporations in the state. It is applicable to the corporations of Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada also. The interest waiver will be applicable to those who pay the arrears and current year's tax in lump sum or in instalments before April 30. If some have already paid interest, it will be adjusted towards future property tax payment and no cash refund will be made.
GHMC commissioner M T Krishna Babu said that the urban local bodies have availed the opportunity and able to improve the collections. However, the percentage of property tax collection is less than the previous year due to various reasons.
