6,000 school buses found unfit

HYDERABAD: The checking of the fitness of school buses will be completed by May 15, transport joint commissioner B Venkateswarlu has said.

The transport department has launched surprise checks across the state to check the fitness of school buses. Of the 21,000 buses, 16,000 have been examined so far and of those examined, 6,000 were found to be not fit for plying. Notices have been issued to the operators of these buses and action will be initiated soon. About 600 cases have been registered.

The joint commissioner said they issued instructions to all schools to take their buses to the RTA office before May 16 for renewal of fitness certificate.
