Government ignores HC word on metro

HYDERABAD:  Notwithstanding the State government’s undertaking before the Andhra Pradesh High Court that it would not proceed with any construction activity relating to the Metro Corridor 3 (Nagole to Shilparamam), Citizens for Better Public Transport in Hyderabad (a coalition of civil society organizations and individuals) claims that there has been no halt to any of the metro works.

Prof C Ramachandraiah, Convenor, CBPTH, S Jeevan Kumar, State president, Human Rights Forum and OM Debara, general secretary, Forum For Better Hyderabad (FBH) said Wednesday that Metro Corridor 3 works continue to go on despite assurances to the contrary by the government.

“This is a clear breach of trust and contempt of court. The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by Greenlands, Ameerpet, Madhuranagar, Yousufguda, Sri Krishna Nagar Joint Action Committee and 20 others,” Ramachandraiah said.

“We demand that the State government keep its word in this regard. We also appeal to the Hon’ble Court to take this matter seriously,” he appealed and asserted repeatedly they would take up the matter in a big way to stop the authorities from going ahead with the metro corridor 3 works.
